WE DID IT !

(We are working through the links; photos first, then dialogue. Sorry for the delay, but keep checking the links on the left)

Val and I completed the Trek and we have to say it was one of the most fantastic experiences we have ever had. Over the next few days we will upload our photos and relate our experiences. The hospitality shown us by the Peruvean people was beyond comparison. We experienced every emotion - we laughed and we cried; we danced and we crawled; we tasted new foods; we were exhausted, we were elated. We were looked after every second of the day, not only by our ActionAid hosts, Rozanne and Gualberto in Cusco and the President and children of the school in Pacca, but also by our tour representatives from Inca Natura (Tribes Travel) Angel Ramos (Puno), Milagro (Cusco), and in particular Omar Aragon in Cusco who was also our guide and inspiration throughout the trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. During the trek we had a superb team of porters, and Florentino, our cook, provided unbelievable meals. He actually baked Val a birthday cake on a primus stove!

Follow our links and enjoy our experience. We are thinking of producing a calendar from the photos. If you would like one, let us know - all profits to the charities. If you are a member of a group who would like a talk/presentation for a small donation, again get in touch.

Again, thank you to all our sponsors and supporters, and in particular our daughter, Alexia, who raised £2313 from a dinner in Glasgow, and Diana Boardman and her mum who raised £639 through charity stalls and cake sales.

The title of our appeal was conceived to amplify the improvement in the quality of life we hope to achieve for the affected groups, and relate this to the task in hand in Peru, where the unit of currency is the sol (plural soles) .

ALL DONATIONS AND WEBSITE SPONSORSHIPS, AND PROFITS FROM EVENTS GO DIRECTLY TO THE 2 CHARITIES AS WE ARE PAYING ALL OUR OWN TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION EXPENSES.

During July and August, this site received over 10,000 hits. Because our areas of activity have been East Lancs., Fylde Coast, and Glasgow, we assume the hits originated in those areas. If you have a business in those areas, would you be interested in sponsoring a link to your business, or website? For only £10 we will include the link until October 2009.
